SALISBURY, Md. – Senior Ronje James had her sixth-consecutive 20-plus point game as the Frostburg State women's basketball team fell at Salisbury Saturday afternoon, 68-42.
James led both teams in scoring with 21 points and four rebounds.
The Bobcats (4-18, 2-14 CAC) opened the first half with the first two baskets of the game on layups from James and sophomore Kache Fields.
After tying the game twice in the first few minutes of the game, the Sea Gulls (22-1, 17-0 CAC) jumped ahead by seven with 10:40 to play before halftime. With baskets from James and freshman Adjowa Pinkrah, the Bobcats came within three, but Salisbury again took a seven-point lead behind a layup from Karly Oristian and two made free throws from Sarah Seipp.
Frostburg State then took off on a 16-4 run that saw four Bobcats score, with James leading the way with six points on two jumpers and two made free throws. Senior Jasmine Walker and Pinkrah each added four points and senior Bria Jones chipped in two during the run to put FSU up five, 28-23, with 1:07 to play before the halftime buzzer.
Oristian hit a free throw and Joey Noonan added a layup and two foul shots to tie the game at 28 heading into halftime.
Salisbury's Lauren Rothfeld opened the second half with a jumper, but Jones got a defensive rebound and tied the game for the fifth and last time, 30-30, with 16:28 remaining in the second half.
After scoring 14 first-half points, James was held to just seven in the final 20 minutes and the Bobcats couldn't find their footing offensively as the Sea Gulls ran out to a 20-6 run in the following minutes to take a 50-36 lead with 9:15 to play.
The Bobcats were 6-of-9 at the foul line down the stretch, but were unable to close the gap as Salisbury pulled away and closed out the game with a 68-42 final advantage.
Pinkrah had six points and four rebounds for the Bobcats while Jones chipped in five points and seven rebounds.
Anna Hackett led Salisbury with nine points and Seipp added eight points and five rebounds.
The Bobcats travel to Penn State Altoona Monday for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
