Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bobcats Fall to #17 Salisbury

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team fell to #17 Salisbury, 73-31, Saturday afternoon.

Senior James Peters led the Bobcat offense with eight total points, while freshman Zachary Coalmon finished the day with 14 rebounds and seven blocks.

The Bobcats (1-6, 0-3) played tough throughout most of the first half, holding the Sea Gulls (6-1, 1-1) within one or two points. A layup from freshman Tavari Merriman tied the game 4-4 early in the first, while the Bobcats secured their only lead of the game in the 14th minute of the half when a layup from senior Shawn Henson put the Bobcats ahead 7-6.

Senior Nick Smoot hit a three-pointer to bring the game within one, 14-13, in the eighth minute of the first half but it was all Salisbury after that.

The Sea Gulls opened up their lead to close the first half, 35-18.

A layup from Peters followed by a jumper from Smoot gave the Bobcat offense a spark in the second half however, the Sea Gulls proved to be too much as they continued to extend the lead throughout the rest of the game.

Smoot and Merriman went a perfect two-for-two on free throw shots in the second half, while senior Jordan Jones hit a big three-pointer late in the second, however Salisbury walked away with the victory.

Salisbury's Justin Witmer finished the day with 12 points and eight rebounds while his teammate, Gordon Jeter finished with 10 points.

FSU will return to the court Sunday, December 20 for a game against Roanoke at 1:00 pm.
