Young, Rayner Post Double-Doubles As Women Defeat Randolph

FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Courtney Young and junior Kirsten Rayner both posted double-doubles as the Frostburg State women's basketball team defeated Randolph College, 51-45, Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

Rayner led FSU with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Young added 11 points and 12 rebounds in the victory.

The Bobcats improve to 2-7 on the season while the Wildcats drop to 1-9.

A layup from Rayner opened the game, but two free throws from Randolph's Rebecca Harvey knotted the game and a layup from Abigail Bullins gave the visitors its only lead of the game at 4-2. The Bobcats regained the lead on a layup from Rayner and a jumper from Young and never trailed the rest of the game. FSU closed out the first quarter with a 6-2 run to take a 12-7 advantage after the first 10 minutes.

With 7:28 remaining in the second quarter, the Bobcats scored 18-straight points to take their largest lead of the game, 30-11, with 1:13 left. A layup and two good free throws from Randolph brought the visitors back within 17, but thanks to shooting a season-high 47 percent from the floor, FSU enjoyed a 32-15 lead at the half.

The Wildcats' Korin Harris and Rebecca Harvey combined for 13 points in the third quarter to chip away at Frostburg's lead, but the Bobcats used a 5-0 run to head into the final quarter up 14 points, 41-27, to keep the game out of reach.

Randolph remained persistent and brought the game within nine, 45-36, but two huge three-pointers from freshman Alanah Roy kept the game in the hosts' favor as the Bobcats held on to a 51-45 win at the final horn.

Junior Kache Fields added eight points and six rebounds for the Bobcats in the win.

Randolph led the Wildcats with 10 points and 11 rebounds while teammate Harvey had a team-high 16 points and six rebounds.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, January 2 when they play host to conference foe Mary Washington. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
