FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Lindsey Scepura set Frostburg's single-season digs record, but the Bobcats suffered a season-ending 3-1 loss to Mary Washington in the opening round of the 2015 CAC Tournament.
Scepura registered 26 digs and capped her season with 689 to set the single-season mark. The previous record was set by Tischa Blank in 1995 with 679 digs.
Frostburg finished the season 17-18 overall after dropping the four-set match to the Eagles, who move on to the tournament semifinals with a 23-6 slate. FSU won the second set 25-18 after dropping the first 25-19. The Eagles took sets three and four 25-18 and 25-19, respectively.
Sophomore Naya Cheatem paced the attack with 19 kills, while senior Aimee Petrides smacked 13. Sophomore Zoe Harris contributed eight. Cheatem eclipsed the 600 kills plateau for the season and finished third in a single-season with 607.
Petrides finished her four-year career with 1,273 kills, good for sixth in a career at Frostburg.
Sophomore Maddie Torres handed out 40 or more assists for the 15
th time this year and finished with 41. She also added five digs and finished with 1,298 assists this season, good for fifth in a single-season.
In the end, Scepura's effort was very impressive as she recorded 20 or more digs for the 17
th time this fall en route to setting the single-season mark in just her second year of collegiate volleyball.
The Eagles led from wire-to-wire in the first set despite Frostburg pulling within one point on two occasions and trailing just 20-18 late in the set.
Set two was the most exciting of the match as the score tied 10 times and the lead changed hands seven times. Frostburg emerged from a 13-13 tie with a 14-13 edge and it never trailed again. Sophomore Sabrina Roberts smacked the go-ahead kill and Petrides smashed the game's final attempt for the 25-18 victory.
After a handful of ties and one lead change early on, Mary Washington jumped out to a 12-3 lead in set three and never looked back. In the fourth and decisive set, the Eagles again jumped out to a 10-4 lead and led by as many as eight late in the game to earn the win.
