NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference opener on Sunday at Christopher Newport, 92-38.
Frostburg (1-5, 0-1) was led in scoring by junior Kirsten Rayner and freshman Alanah Roy, each with 11 points. Rayner finished 9-of-10 at the foul line, while Roy was 4-for-6 shooting with a team-high five rebounds. Sophomore Adjowa Pinkrah
The Bobcats were held in check with just five baskets in each half as the host Captains (5-0, 1-0) led from wire-to-wire.
Rayner knocked down a pair of free throws with 2:41 left in the first quarter for Frostburg's first points, but CNU already held a comfortable lead. Christopher Newport led 53-15 at halftime.
The hosts shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and had four players score in double figures.
Frostburg returns to action this Wednesday at Penn State Harrisburg at 6:00 pm.
