MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Freshman Megan Kelly posted 25 points, but a layup in the final 10 seconds put the game just out of reach for the Frostburg State women's basketball team as it dropped a one-point, 53-52 loss at Penn State Harrisburg, Wednesday evening.
Frostburg (1-6, 0-2 Capital Athletic Conference) led early on, jumping out to an 11-3 lead midway through the first quarter and leading 15-10 at the first intermission.
With 4:36 left before the half, Penn State Harrisburg (4-3, 1-0 CAC) managed to slip ahead on a three-point shot from Jasmine Yanich to take a slim 20-18 lead. However, two made free throws from junior Kirsten Rayner gave the Bobcats some momentum back and knotted the game at 20-20.
Coming out of halftime in a 29-21 deficit, FSU tried to chip away at the Lions' lead but headed into the final 10 minutes down 45-35.
Just 10 seconds into the final quarter, Yolanna Snypse added a layup to the hosts' lead, but the Bobcat defense shut the Lion offense down for 2:04 before another Lion layup gave PSH their largest lead of the game, 49-35, with just under eight minutes left to play.
