Bobcats Fall To Gettysburg In Championship Game

FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Kirsten Rayner led the Frostburg State offense and earned a spot on the Jim Crawley All-Tournament Team, as the Bobcats fell to Gettysburg ,83-53, in the championship game, Saturday afternoon.

Rayner finished the tournament with 29 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.

The Bobcats (1-3) scored first when Kache Fields made a jumper seconds into the first quarter, however the Bullets (2-0) came back to score to tie the game 2-2.

FSU came back to score twice, first a jumper from senior Courtney Young, followed by a layup from Rayner to make it a 6-2, the only lead the Bobcats maintained throughout the game.

The Bobcats held the Bullets close throughout the rest of the first period, exchanging points back-and-forth to end the period 18-11.

Gettysburg opened up the lead in the second-half, scoring seven unanswered points to go up 34-20 over the Bobcats. Freshman Alanah Roy, Fields and freshman Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla all went perfect 2-for-2 on free throw shots in the second period but it wasn't enough and the Bullets went up 36-25 at the half.

Young hit a huge three-pointer in the third period; however Gettysburg continued to extend their lead to end the period 63-43.

Rayner opened the fourth period with a layup, and the Bobcats scored four unanswered points early in the period the cut the lead to 16; however the hosts could not hold off Gettysburg as they went on the win the championship game.

Fields finished with eleven points, while Young contributed 10 and six rebounds for the afternoon.

Gettysburg's Jessica Porter led the game with 29 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. For the second year in a row, Porter was named the Jim Crawley Tournament MVP.

Frostburg returns to action when they host Mt. Aloysius Tuesday, November 24 for a game set to start at 6:00 pm.

SUNY Geneseo vs. St. Joseph's Brooklyn- Consolation Game
Earlier in the afternoon, SUNY Geneseo earned a 78-37 victory over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn). Geneseo led early, and did not relinquish the lead throughout the afternoon.
The Knights were led by McKenna Brooks who finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while Allison Mckenna contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
