Huge Third Quarter Carries Frostburg to Win

FROSTBURG, Md. – Five players scored in doubles figures, but it was a huge third quarter that carried Frostburg to its first win of the season.
 
The Bobcats (1-2) poured in 32 points in the third quarter en route to a 78-57 home win in the first game of the 13th Annual Jim Crawley Tournament, Friday night.
 
St. Joseph's (0-3) scored the second half's first basket and cut its deficit to just five, 33-28. Frostburg then erupted on a 32-13 run over the final 9:58 of the frame.
 
Over a five minute stretch in the middle part of the quarter, FSU cruised to a 23-point cushion behind a 20-2 outburst. Moments later, Frostburg pushed its advantage to a game-high 26 twice before closing out the quarter with a 65-41 lead.
 
The Lady Bears outscored Frostburg 16-13 in the fourth quarter to narrow the final to 78-57. The lead changed hands twice in the first quarter and the visitors led by as many as six, 14-8.
 
Frostburg rebounded from the early deficit by shooting a season-high 45.9 percent from the floor on 34-of-74 attempts. The Bobcats also held a 52-36 edge in rebounding and handed out 21 assists.
 
Junior Kirsten Rayner scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, all on the offensive glass. Freshman Carissa Shepko also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 defensive rebounds. Sophomore Adjowa Pinkrah scored 13 points, while senior Courtney Young (10 pts.) and freshman Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla (10 pts.) both finished in double figures.
 
Destiny Marino led the way for the Lady Bears with 17 points, followed by Erica Eddy with 12 and Victoria Porcasi with 11 points and 10 boards.
 
Frostburg will now face Gettysburg in the tournament championship game tomorrow at 3:00 pm. St. Joseph's will square off against SUNY Geneseo in the consolation game at 1:00 pm.
 
Gettysburg vs. Geneseo – Game 2
In the second game on Friday night, Gettysburg earned a 50-47 victory over Geneseo thanks to a three-pointer from Jessica Porter with three seconds left. Kim Ryan led the Bullets in scoring with 10 points and three rebounds, while Emily Gibbons and Annie Reilly each had nine.
 
For Geneseo, Allison McKenna led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds followed by McKenna Brooks with 12 points and nine boards.
