SALISBURY, Md. – Freshman quarterback Connor Cox accounted for 255 yards in offense and sophomore tailback Jordan Brown ran for a career-high 115 yards as Frostburg endured a narrow 28-27 loss at #21 Salisbury in the 17
th Annual Regents Cup game, Saturday.
Cox threw for 157 yards and one touchdown and ran for another 98 yards and a score to earn Mike McGlinchey Most Valuable Player honors.
Cox ran for a 24-yard score for the only points of the opening quarter as Frostburg (6-4, 5-4 NJAC) led 7-0. Junior kicker Isaac Robinson booted an impressive 50-yard field goal to open the second quarter by extending Frostburg's lead to 10-0.
Sophomore Dante Chinnery intercepted a Ryan Jones pass on the ensuing Salisbury (7-2, 7-1 NJAC) drive and Cox pushed Frostburg's lead to 17-0 when he connected with junior Myles Burgess for a 28-yard touchdown with 8:20 left in the first half.
Robinson sent both teams into the locker room when he made a 24-yard field goal to close out the first half with the Bobcats up 20-0.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter. Jones put Salisbury on the scoreboard with a one-yard scoring run and Brown scored from nine yards out for FSU as it led 27-7.
Salisbury rebounded with three scores in the fourth.
Brown averaged 5.0 yards per carry against the Sea Gulls as he finished with 23 attempts for 115 yards and a touchdown. Cox completed 15-of-24 passes and ran 14 times. Burgess hauled in seven receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Junior defensive end William Sewell led both teams with 10 tackles, including 2.5 behind the line and a half sack. Senior Salaman Riddell added eight tackles including 1.0 TFL.
Frostburg now awaits a bid to a 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Bowl Game and selections will be announced on Monday, November 16.
