Worthman’s Big Night Carries Frostburg Past Penn State Harrisburg

FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Erin Worthman had a hat trick by halftime and finished with five goals as Frostburg defeated Penn State Harrisburg, 5-1, Wednesday night in women's soccer action.

Worthman's stellar outing pushed the Bobcats to 7-5-1 overall, but more importantly, to 3-0 in the CAC. Wednesday's outburst marks her first career hat trick, which she had accomplished by the 25th minute in the opening half.

She added two more goals early in the second half to bring her total to five. Junior Leah Yurko was credited with two assists.

Worthman's first tally came just over two minutes into action from senior Brooke Longo and Worthman later added goals at 22:45 and 24:42 for her hat trick.

Yurko (52:05) and junior Kelsi Folch (53:05) found Worthman early in the second half within a minute of one another as Frostburg increased its lead to 5-0.

Harrisburg avoided the shutout when Fay Ansary scored an unassisted tally in the 81st minute.

Frostburg outshot the Lions 22-7 and it's the second time this season that FSU has outscored an opponent 5-0. The Bobcats downed St. Vincent 5-0 in the season opener.

Worthman's five goals are the most by a player in the CAC this season, set a CAC record for goals and points in a game against a CAC opponent and is the first time that a Frostburg player has scored five goals in a game since early in the 2013 campaign.

Lion keeper Samantha Kutcher stopped 10 shots on the night for the visitors as they slipped to 2-7-1 overall and 1-3 in the league. Senior Paige Gray needed just one save in the first half for the win.

Frostburg State returns to the field this Saturday when it hosts Salisbury at 1:00 pm.
