Bobcats Earn Draw With Salisbury

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State and rival Salisbury battled to a 0-0 draw following a pair of overtimes, Saturday, in CAC women's soccer action.

The Bobcats earned their second tie this season and settle at 7-5-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the league. Meanwhile, the Sea Gulls are 8-3-1 and 2-1-1 in the conference.

Frostburg held a narrow 10-8 edge in shots, including four shots in both overtimes.

Senior Erin Worthman had Frostburg's best opportunity in the first half when she broke through the defense for a break away chance, but her shot sailed over the head of Salisbury keeper Alesha Seifert and hit the crossbar.

SU outshot FSU 7-6 in the first stanza.

In the second half, junior Leah Yurko took a hard shot from the right side of the goal that forced a diving save from Seifert to keep things at 0-0.

In the 72nd minute, a scrum in front of the Frostburg goal resulted in a shot from Salisbury that was turned away by Bobcat keeper Paige Gray.

Frostburg had another chance early in the second overtime, but Seifert made yet another diving save. Senior Chelsea McCoy ripped a hard shot from a little left of the goal forcing Seifert to dive to her right to deny the goal.

The Bobcats' final chance came in the waning seconds of the second overtime when sophomore Melanie Bell knocked a header on goal that missed just wide left and hit the side of the net.

Despite the Bobcats' chances, 110 minutes ticked off the clock with neither team in the lead. Seifert finished with four saves, while Frostburg senior keeper Paige Gray notched two saves.

Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday at Marymount at 7:00 pm.
