Bobcats Down Wesley in Conference Matchup

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team pushed past conference foe Wesley to earn their second straight CAC conference win and third consecutive victory, Saturday afternoon.

Despite a rainy cold afternoon in Frostburg, the match was nothing but heated as the Bobcats managed to outlast the Wolverines to a 3-2 victory.

Offensive aggression was key in the matchup, as both teams produced double digit shots. Wesley totaled 14 shots while FSU had 12.
FSU was first to score when freshman Deion Hunter took a direct kick from 30 yards out and connected with senior Mitchell Muise who knocked one into the goal to surge Frostburg to a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute.

In the final seconds of the first half, junior Basluel Mekonnen drilled one into the goal, but it was called back on an offsides call.

Frostburg remained in the lead until early in the second half when Wesley's Patrick Schlosser found Adrian Coverdale who kicked one in past the Bobcat defense.

Wesley scored again only ten minutes later when a pass from Will Mileski crossed into the box and was knocked in for a goal by Tobi Sowande.

However, the Bobcats remained relentless and managed to tie the game in the 74th minute when a high arching pass from junior Erik Casterline crossed into the box and freshman Guy Nabo headed it into the corner of the goal.

The game winner for the Bobcats came in the 80th minute of the match, when Nabo dribbled past two defenders into the box for a one- on- one with the goalie. He passed the ball across the goal to connect with junior Jonathan Lippitt who hit one into the corner of the net.

The marks Nabo's eighth goal of the season and his fourth consecutive game with a goal scored. It was also Lippitt's first career goal.

Wesley goalkeeper Zack Baker made four saves on the afternoon while FSU's Hassan Mostafa made seven saves on the night and walked away with the win.

The Bobcats will play again Tuesday, October 6 when they travel to play conference foe Mary Washington at 4:00 pm.
