HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State volleyball team defeated Penn State Harrisburg in three straight sets, 3-0, in Capital Athletic Conference action, Wednesday evening.
The Bobcats (16-15, 4-4 CAC) and the Lions (9-16, 0-8 CAC) battled back and forth in the first set as FSU used a 9-1 rally to erase an 8-1 deficit and take a one-point lead, 10-9. Deadlocked at 19-19, the Lions took a 20-19 lead, but FSU battled back with a 7-1 rally to win 25-21.
Tied at 9-9 in game two, the black and red used a 12-4 rally to pull ahead, 21-13. PSH scored the next three points, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats put the game away with the final four points to take the set, 25-16.
Game three was all Frostburg as the Bobcats jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 25-11 final set victory.
FSU had an incredible hitting percentage in all three sets and just kept improving throughout the match, with a hitting percentage of .250 in game one, .321 in game two and a phenomenal .522 in game three.
Sophomore Naya Cheatem finished the match with 18 kills and two blocks to lead Frostburg. Senior Aimee Petrides added 12 kills on the offensive front and a game-high five service aces. Sophomore Lindsey Scepura added 13 digs and classmate Madelyn Torres finished with 34 assists in the win.
