Frostburg Cruises In Regular-Season Finale

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team capped its regular season with an exclamation point on Wednesday night.
 
The Bobcats found the net six times in the first half en route to an 8-0 shutout of Southern Virginia in a dominant performance. Frostburg outshot the Knights (1-17) 25-8, including an 11-4 edge in the first half.
 
Frostburg also received four penalty kicks courtesy of fouls on the Knight defense in the 18. FSU converted all four attempts.
 
Freshman Guy Nabo led the Bobcats with two goals, while junior Erik Casterline scored once and handed out two assists.
 
Freshman Kelvin Tata knocked home a diving header in the seventh minute on a long pass from Casterline to open the scoring action for Frostburg. Moments later, Tata found freshman Carvell Akuffo for the second goal.
 
Senior Mitchell Muise converted the first penalty kick at 10:45 for a 3-0 lead before Nabo scored back-to-back goals to make it 5-0. Casterline found Nabo in the 13th minute and freshman Hunter Jarmon crossed a ball for Nabo at 16:31.
 
Jarmon ended the first-half outburst with a penalty kick at 30:20 as Frostburg led 6-0 at the break.
 
In the second, FSU (11-4-2) tacked on two more goals both courtesy of penalty kicks. Casterline scored at 46:38 and sophomore Rodrigo Valenzuela knocked home a left footed attempt at 72:21 for the 8-0 final.
 
Freshman Carlos Caro played a majority of the game (77:17) in net and stopped one shot for the victory. Freshman Austin Gray made one save over the final 12:43.
 
SVU's Gregg Allen led the way with three shots, while Keenan Carroll endured the loss in net after surrendering all six first-half goals.
 
Frostburg now awaits a bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament that starts on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
