FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer squad endured a 2-1 setback to Alvernia in the first round of the 2015 ECAC South Region Championship, Wednesday night.
The seventh seeded Crusaders (8-7-5) scored one goal in each half en route to the win. They now advance to the championship, hosted by top seed Penn State Behrend.
Bobcat freshman Guy Nabo headed home his 12
th goal of the season with just 1:02 to play to draw FSU within one goal and hand the hosts some late momentum. Freshman Hunter Jarmon was credited with the assist on the free kick.
However, the Bobcats couldn't get another shot off as the final horn sounded.
Frostburg had a chance at its first goal with 5:32 showing on the second half clock when freshman Carvell Akuffo slipped a shot between the legs of Alvernia keeper Zach Rider. At the last second, Rider got a hand on the ball and popped it over the goal to keep his squad in the lead at 2-0.
Bobcat junior Hassan Mostafa made two saves in the loss, while Rider notched four saves for the victory. Frostburg outshot the visitors 9-7.
FSU caps its 2015 season with an 11-5-2 overall record.
