Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Bobcats Fall To #11 Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Senior Alexandra Darrow scored Frostburg State field hockey's lone goal as the Bobcats dropped a 7-1 decision to #11 Mary Washington, Wednesday afternoon.

This marks Darrow's 22nd goal this season moving her up in the FSU record books to be tied in second place for goals scored in a single season. She currently shares the second-place spot with Kim Faust who also scored 22 goals in 2000. Faust currently holds the all-time record for the Bobcats with 23 goals set during the 2002 season.

The Bobcats (8-9, 1-4) fought hard for 70 minutes but could not hold off the powerful Eagle (13-4, 5-1) offense as Mary Washington surged to an early lead in the first half.

Mary Washington scored in the first minute of the game when Haley Kane made a pass to teammate Kathleen Namey who hit one past the FSU goalkeeper.

The Eagles closed out the first half with three more goals from Jenna Steele, all unassisted.

Mary Washington kicked off the second half with two more goals, one from Carlee Budd and the next goal from Steele, giving her three goals on the afternoon.

The Bobcat duo of senior Jackie Best and Darrow pushed down the field to make a run for FSU in the 63rd minute of the game. Best passed to Darrow who drilled one past the Eagles goalkeeper to put the Bobcats on the board.

Mary Washington closed out the afternoon with a goal from Kane unassisted.

Sophomore Nicole Leighty and junior Jackie Gover split time in goal for the Bobcats. Leighty made 13 saves on the afternoon. Eagle goalkeepers Jessica Cavolt and Caroline Freeman combined for two saves.

FSU will close out its regular season play on Friday, October 30 when they travel to Salisbury for a game at 2:00 pm.
