Men’s Soccer Ties At Salisbury

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team battled for 110 minutes against conference rival Salisbury, ending double overtime in a 0-0 tie, Saturday afternoon.

Due to stellar performances on defense and in goal, the Bobcats (10-4-2, 4-2-2) were able to shut down the Salisbury (9-3-3, 4-0-3) offense leaving the game scoreless after four periods.

The tie with Salisbury moves Frostburg into fourth place in the CAC with only a handful of regular season games remaining amongst league teams.

Junior goalkeeper Hassan Mostafa made seven saves for the Bobcats and the FSU defense made two team saves on the afternoon.

While the Sea Gulls held an overall advantage in shots, 23-14, the Bobcats had more shots on goal (10) than Salisbury (9).

The Bobcat offense was led by sophomore Rodrigo Valenzuela and freshman Carvell Akuffo, as each posted two shots on goal for the afternoon.

Freshman Serigne Gueye took a shot at the end of regulation however it fell into the hands of Sea Gull keeper Drew Staedeli, to keep the match scoreless.

In the first overtime, Salisbury outshot the Bobcats 2-1, however could not connect with the back of the net.

Salisbury held a 4-0 shot advantage over FSU in second overtime but the Bobcat defense proved to be too much for the Sea Gull as both teams walked away in a tie.

FSU's Mostafa posted seven saves while Sea Gull keeper Staedeli made 10.

The Bobcats will return to the field Wednesday, October 28th when they host Southern Virginia for a game slated to being at 6:00 pm.
