NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg State field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to #14 Christopher Newport, Saturday morning.
The Bobcats (8-8, 1-3) held tough against nationally ranked Christopher Newport (13-2, 5-0) however, the Captains proved too much to handle and shutout the FSU offense.
CNU held the advantage over the Bobcats in shots, 16-10 as well as penalty corners 12-7.
The Bobcats posted five shots on goal throughout the match including two from senior Alexandra Darrow. Darrow also led the Bobcat offense with four total shots on the morning.
The Captains scored early in the first half, only 48 seconds into the match of a penalty corner pass that ripped past the FSU defense.
CNU's Mackenzie Neylon scored in the 13
th minute off a rebounded shot. The Captains put in another goal five minutes later when Taylor Williams drilled one into the cage off a pass from Courtnie Greene.
The Bobcat defense stepped up during the second half, holding CNU to only six shots.
The Captains scored their final two goals in the 45
th minute of the second half and the 55
th minute. The first goal came from a 2-on-1 with the FSU goalie, and Lisa Murphy scored off a pass from
Lauren Cheatham. Greene scored the final goal for the Captains; she was assisted by Lisa Murphy.
Bobcat goalkeeper senior Jackie Gover made five saves on the morning, while CNU's Stephanie McKinney made four saves and took the win.
FSU will return to the field Wednesday, October 28 when they travel to #13 Mary Washington for a game at 4:00 pm.
