Susquehanna Ends Volleyball’s Three-Game Winning Streak

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State volleyball team fell in a close, three-set match against Susquehanna, Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

Senior Aimee Petrides led both teams with 16 kills for the Bobcats. Sophomore Naya Cheatem added 12 kills and three blocks, while fellow sophomores Madelyn Torres (31 assists) and Lindsey Scepura (18 digs) both posted game-high stats for FSU.

Despite a late 4-2 run, Frostburg (13-14) couldn't overcome Susquehanna (19-8) in game one, 25-13.

The Bobcats weren't going down without a fight, however, and rebounded in game two. Down 16-8, FSU leapt out to a 7-2 streak to cut its deficit to three, 18-15. Both teams traded points, but FSU couldn't quite overtake the Crusaders and fell, 25-22.

Extra-point sets followed the Bobcats this weekend, in spite of an early 12-3 FSU lead in game three. Susquehanna scored the next five straight points to bring it within four, 12-8. The Bobcats continued to lead, 16-9, but the Crusaders took advantage of a 12-1 rally to overtake the hosts, 21-17. The black and red clawed back with a 6-1 rally of its own to take back the lead, 23-22, but both teams continued to knot the set at 24-24, 25-25, and 26-26 before the visitors finally had two consecutive kills to take the match, 28-26.

Marykate Sherkness led Susquehanna with 12 kills, while teammate Sarah Paluck contributed 13 digs for the Crusaders.

The Bobcats hit the road to face York (Pa.) in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 pm.
