FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State volleyball team outlasted Southern Virginia, 3-0, in Capital Athletic Conference action Wednesday, at Bobcat Arena.
Sophomore Naya Cheatem continued her dominating ways and finished the day with a game-high 19 kills to her credit. Sophomore Sabrina Roberts and senior Aimee Petrides added stellar defensive play with five and three blocks, respectively. Sophomore Madelyn Torres (29 assists) and classmate Lindsey Scepura (20 kills and two service aces) both posted game-high stats as well.
The Bobcats (12-13, 1-3 CAC) jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set and never relinquished the advantage. FSU kept Southern Virginia (5-16, 0-3 CAC) in check and didn't allow the visitors more than two-straight points en route to a 25-20 win.
Tied 11-11 in game two, the Bobcats went on a 7-4 run to lead 18-15. The Knights then scored four of the next seven points to come within two, 21-19, but FSU put the game away with four-straight points for the 25-19 win.
Game three was more evenly paced, with both teams trading the lead throughout. Knotted at 16-16, SVU scored three of the next four points to take a two-point, 19-17 lead. However, Frostburg kept the pressure on and capitalized on eight of the final nine points to finish the set with a 25-20 win.
Frostburg returns to action Saturday, October 17 with a home CAC matchup against Wesley at 4:00 pm.
