DOVER, Del. – Senior guard Ronje James scored 18 points and Frostburg State shot a season-best 45.8 percent from the floor, but endured a 73-60 loss to Wesley in CAC action, Sunday afternoon.
Frostburg (1-8, 0-4 CAC) finished 27-of-59 from the field and outscored the Wolverines (7-4, 3-2 CAC) 38-14 in the paint.
Wesley shot just 19-of-58 (32.8%) from the field but the difference in the game came from beyond the arc and at the foul line. The Wolverines made 12-of-26 three-pointers (46.2%) and made 23-of-35 (65.7%) free throw attempts to outpace the Bobcats.
The contest resumed play with 8:16 left on the first half clock following an in-game delay from yesterday afternoon's original start of 1:00 pm. Wesley, which led 18-13 when the game was halted, closed out the opening stanza on a 19-7 run once play was resumed on Sunday. The hosts grabbed a quick 7-0 run to lead by 12, 25-13.
Moments later, the Wolverines pushed their lead to 20, 35-15 with 2:42 remaining and entered intermission up, 37-23.
In the second half, Frostburg pulled to within nine points on four occasions but could not get any closer. James hit a three-pointer with 1:35 to play to pull the Bobcats within 65-56, but Wesley pushed its lead back to 15 points before winning by 13.
James and freshman Adjowa Pinkrah both shot 50.0 percent from the floor to lead the Bobcats (1-8, 0-4 CAC) in scoring. James' 18 points mark the sixth-consecutive game in double figures. She finished 8-of-16 from the floor and added seven steals and four assists, while Pinkrah finished with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and tied for a team-best five rebounds.
Wesley's Brionna Johnson turned in a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds. She handed out five assists and finished 10-of-13 from the foul line. Alexus Stroud came off the bench to add 17 points, while Tiara White contributed 11.
Frostburg returns to the floor on Wednesday when it hosts St. Mary's at 6:00 pm.
