FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Freshmen Christian March and Macey Nitchie continued their successful first seasons with the Frostburg State men's and women's swimming teams as Nitchie notched a pair of wins while March took second in two events in a Capital Athletic Conference tri-meet with Mary Washington and Marymount (Va.).
Meet ResultsThe women's swimming team fell to UWM and MU 166-82 while the men fell to the two schools 173-77.
Nitchie kicked off her individual day with her best time of the season in the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:58.85, defeating the CAC defending Swimmer of the Year. The freshman broke her previous top performance of the season by over one second and set a new school record. Nitchie previously broke the school record last week against Davis & Elkins. Nitchie's second win of the day came in the 100-yard freestyle as she touched the wall at 55.48, eclipsing her previous best time in the event by .47. Nitchie wrapped up her individual day with a third place time of 25.88 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Junior Kait Donch picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.10 before taking third in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:39.24. Junior Maci Quintanilla brought home third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.67 while senior Jaclyn Franzak took third in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:43.42.
Donch, Nitchie and Franzak teamed up with senior Sara King to take fourth in the meet's opening 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.05. Quintanilla, sophomore Sydney Fazenbaker, junior Chrissy Alessandrini and senior Elizabeth Jarrell closed out the meet with a fifth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:56.31.
On the men's side, March brought home second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.48) and the 50-yard freestyle (22.69) and sophomore Alek Combs finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.41) for the three best finishes for Frostburg. March rounded out his individual day with a fourth-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.38.
Combs opened the individual portion of the meet with a third place performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 12:34.75. Freshman Deionn Yarberough finished third in the 100-yard backstroke at 59.57 while junior Jon Shepard took third in the 100-yard breaststroke touching the wall at 1:02.05.
Freshman James Williams took third for Frostburg in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.35 to round out FSU's top-three performances of the meet.
Shepard, Yarberough, Williams and freshman Marquell Proctor took fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:36.81 to close out the meet while Yarberough, Shepard March and Williams opened the day with a fourth place showing in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.59.
The Frostburg men's and women's swimming teams have the next two weeks off as the Bobcats prepare for the CAC championships held at St. Mary's (Md.) the weekend of Feb. 20-22.
