NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior guard Ronje James dropped 19 points as the Frostburg State women's basketball team fell to Christopher Newport Saturday at Newport News, 77-52.
The Captains shot 52 percent in the opening 20 minutes, but it wasn't until 7:41 left before the half that the game turned to Christopher Newport's favor for good as a layup by Camry Green gave the Captains' a slim 20-19 lead.
While James was held to just six points in the first half, classmate Jasmine Walker had nine of the team's 25 points before the intermission.
Down 34-25 at the half, the Captains kept chipping away and went on a 15-4 run with 5:40 left to play to put the game out of the Bobcats' reach.
Frostburg State was 10-for-16 at the free throw line to earn nearly 40 percent of its second-half points.
James led the Bobcats with 19 points and two rebounds while Walker finished with 10 points and two rebounds. Freshman Adjowah Pinkrah added eight points and eight rebounds.
Green had a team-high 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Captains and Devon Byrd chipped in 15 points and eight boards.
The Bobcats travel to Penn State Altoona Monday to take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m.
