Bobcats Fall At Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. – In a back-and-forth contest that saw 15 lead changes, the Frostburg State women's basketball team dropped a close matchup to Southern Virginia Wednesday night, 70-65.

Sophomore Kache Fields led the Bobcats in the first half downing 11 of her 13 points, including six of the first eight Frostburg State tallies.

With just 1:21 left before the intermission, Southern Virginia took hold with a slim four-point lead, but it was quickly shorted by freshman Adjowah Pinkrah's two made free throws.  The Knights held a 33-31 advantage at the half.

After nine ties and 15 lead changes in the first 20 minutes, the final 20 minutes saw just two changes in advantage. Frostburg's junior Bria Jones followed Fields' lead and hit the first six points for the Bobcats, with two layups and a jumper to her credit.

After three more tied scores in the opening six minutes, Larissa Conger took back the lead for the Knights after hitting a three-pointer with 14:09 left to play.

The game tied one last time with 11:44 to go, but the lead never switched hands and the Knights managed to hold the Bobcats off and sneak out with a five-point final advantage, 70-65.

Jones led the Bobcats with 17 points and six rebounds. Fields (13 points) and senior Ronje James (10 points) also had double-digit nights.

Crystal Cleveland had 11 points and 16 rebounds for the Knights while Melynda Boren added 15 points.

The Bobcats travel to Christopher Newport Saturday to take on the Captains at 2:00 p.m.
