Bobcats Coast To Road Win At Southern Virginia

BUENVA VISTA, Va. – The trio of senior Jabari Kamau, junior Jerel Carter and freshman Tyler Michael turned in outstanding efforts to lead Frostburg State to an 83-58 win over Southern Virginia, Wednesday.
 
The Bobcats poured in 83 points, including 50 in the second half as they evened their record at 8-8 overall and 4-5 in CAC action. FSU used a 15-0 scoring run over the final five minutes of the first half to take control and it cruised from there.
 
Southern Virginia (2-12, 0-8 CAC) overcame a slow start to lead by five points with a just over five minutes to play in the opening half, but the Bobcats 15-0 run was too much for the Knights.
 
Frostburg led 33-23 at intermission and the Knights brought the deficit to eight, 33-25, with the first basket of the second half. However, FSU increased its lead to 12 a minute later and slowly extended its lead until the final horn.
 
Carter made a layup at 15:00 as Frostburg led 48-27 and freshman Christopher Coston hit a three-pointer with 2:10 to play as Frostburg led by 32, 80-48.
 
Michael led both team with 20 points, including four three-pointers, while Kamau and Carter each added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Carter also handed out six assists and registered six steals. Junior Nick Smoot was the fourth player in double figures with 11 points.
 
The Bobcats shot 47.6 percent (30-of-63) from the floor, their third highest of the season and turned 24 Southern Virginia turnovers into 29 points.
 
Justin Langford came off the bench to lead Southern Virginia with 16 points, while David Baety led the starting lineup with 12.
 
Frostburg State hits the road this Saturday at Christopher Newport 4:00 pm.
