ARLINGTON, Va. – Senior Ronje' James posted her second-high point total of the season but the Frostburg State women's basketball team fell to Capital Athletic Conference opponent Marymount (Va.), 63-48, Saturday afternoon.
James led the Bobcats (1-10, 0-6) with 24 points while senior Jasmine Walker posted 11 points and five rebounds. Marymount's Kievanna Lacey led all players with 25 points.
Marymount (9-4, 5-1) built an 11-point lead over the first five minutes behind a 16-3 run to open the game. James broke up the spurt with her first jumper of the game at 14:17 to cut the Saints' lead back to single-digits, 16-7. Marymount continued to build on its lead after a pair of free throws from Lacey pushed MU's lead back to double digits, 18-7. The Saints closed out the first half on a 11-7 run to take a 36-20 lead into halftime.
The Saints opened the second half with a 12-8 run to take their largest lead of the game at the time at 48-28 with 13:11 left to play in the game before Walker converted a layup to break up the run and cut the lead to 16 points at 48-32. After a layup from Lacey pushed the MU lead back to 20, 58-38, with 4:42 to play. Another Lacey layup gave the Saints a 61-40 lead with 2:20 to play before a pair of free throws from sophomore Kache Fields and a jumper James closed out the game and brought the score to its final at 63-46.
Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday when the Bobcats host York (Pa.) in CAC action at 6:00 pm.
