Women's Basketball Falls To York

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game to York (Pa.) Wednesday night at Bobcat Arena, 70-63.

The Bobcats led by as many as nine points in the first half, but were unable to hold off a late surge by the Spartans, led by Shea Wassel's double-double effort.

Senior guard Ronje James put up 17 of her 23 points in the first half but Jess Selby hit two free throws to give the Spartans a 34-32 lead heading into the intermission.

A made three-point shot by Katie Wagner pushed the York lead to eight points with 13:27 remaining, but the Bobcats clawed their way back and took a one-point advantage when Adjowa Pinkrah made a three-pointer of her own with 6:34 left to play.

Eighteen seconds later, Wagner gave the Spartans its final lift over Frostburg State with two made free throws and York held on to win its first conference game of the season.

James led the Bobcats with 23 points and four rebounds and is now just seven points shy of the 1,000-point milestone. Teammates Jasmine Walker (15 points, nine rebounds) and Courtney Young (10 points, nine rebounds) also had double-digit nights.

The Spartans were led by Wassel's 16 points and 17 rebounds, while Sam Hruz added 17 points and eight rebounds.

The Bobcats continue the conference portion of their schedule Saturday as they play host to Salisbury, with tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
