UNION, N.J. – The Frostburg State volleyball team dropped a pair of close matches Friday night at the Cougar Classic at Kean University.
 
The Bobcats dropped their first match in five sets to Mt. St. Mary's (N.Y.), 3-2. FSU hit .526 in the first set and rolled to a 25-6 win. The Knights rebounded to win the second set 25-20. Frostburg took a 2-1 lead behind another strong effort in game three (25-12). However, Mt. St. Mary's closed out the set with 25-19 and 17-15 wins in the final two games.
 
In the second match of the evening, Frostburg lost to host Kean, 3-1. The Cougars grabbed the first two sets 30-28 and 25-20. The Bobcats rallied with a 25-19 victory in the third frame before Kean closed out the match with a 25-19 score in game four.
 
Junior Aimee Petrides smashed 33 kills, including 21 in the loss to Kean. Freshman Madelyn Torres handed out 61 assists, while freshman Lindsey Scepura collected 32 digs.
 
The Bobcats play Centenary (10:00 am) and Hunter (noon) on Saturday in the second day of the Cougar Classic.
