FROSTBURG, Md. – A scoreless tie was broken in the 84
th minute when freshman Alyssa Malanik converted a penalty kick goal to lift Frostburg State past McDaniel, 1-0, Tuesday night.
Box ScoreMalanik's second goal of her collegiate career couldn't have come at a better time for the Bobcats (6-1-2). Having a missed on a pair of key chances earlier in the game and trailing in shots, 14-11, Frostburg capitalized on McDaniel's foul at 83:49. Malanik wasted little time as she buried a shot in the upper left corner for a 1-0 lead and eventually the win.
Senior keeper Katie Smith made five saves for her third shutout of the season.
The hosts had a pair of opportunities to grab a 1-0 lead prior to Malanik's goals. Senior Stephanie Fazenbaker had a shot cleared off the goal line by a McDaniel (5-2-1) defender in the 67
th minute while junior Erin Worthman had a break away shot turned away by Green Terror keeper Haley Jacobs in the 82
nd minute. Jacobs finished with five saves in the losing effort.
Frostburg State hosts a pair of games this weekend starting with St. Mary's on Saturday at 5:00 pm.
