Frostburg Rolls In Non-Conference Victory

ALTOONA, Pa. – Frostburg State scored five first-half goals and continued that surge in the second half to the tune of an 8-0 shutout victory at Penn State Altoona, Wednesday.

The shutout marks the fourth of the season for the Bobcats as they pushed their record to 5-1-1. The Bobcats scored eight goals on just 25 shots, including five goals in the first stanza on 16 attempts. The eight goals are the most for Frostburg since posting nine against Penn State Harrisburg a year ago.
 
Junior Chelsea McCoy finished with an impressive three goals and three assists to lead the offensive output. Classmate Erin Worthman added two goals and two assists and together they scored four of the Bobcats' five first-half goals.
 
Worthman scored at 1:00 in the first half followed by a goal from senior Stephanie Fazenbaker at 7:41. McCoy scored two of the next three goals (11:37 and 32:02) and Worthman added Frostburg's fourth goal at 29:54.
 
Sophomore Nicole Gernert and freshman Kourtney McLain added single assists in the first half.
 
McCoy handed out a pair of assists in the second half, including the first to Fazenbaker just 1:56 into the period for her second goal of the game. Worthman assisted McCoy in the 60th minute and McCoy found freshman Jaci Buteau for the game's final goal at 60:20.
 
All four keepers on the Frostburg roster saw action in the win over Lions. Senior Katie Smith picked up the victory after playing all 45 minutes in the first half and posting three saves. Junior Paige Gray played just over 22 minutes in the second and finished with three saves. Sophomore Karen Belteton and freshman Emily Chapman each made one save.
 
Frostburg returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to Stevenson at 5:00 pm.
