Volleyball Defeats Westminster In Five

LATROBE, Pa. – The Frostburg State University volleyball team capped the second day of the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge with a tough, five-set win over Westminster and a loss to host Saint Vincent, Saturday.

The Bobcats (1-3) posted their first victory of the 2014 season with a 3-2 win over the Titans. The two teams traded sets as FSU took games one and three (25-13, 25-17), while Westminster won games two and four by a score of 25-22. In the fifth and decisive set, Frostburg pulled out a 16-14 win to take the match.
 
Junior Aimee Petrides hit .349 with 21 kills in the win to lead the team. Freshman Naya Cheatem chipped in 10 kills and a .286 hitting percentage.
 
Freshman Madelyn Torres handed out 37 assists and eight digs, while freshman Lindsey Scepura registered a team-high 17 digs.
 
In the first match of the day, Frostburg fell to Saint Vincent, 3-1, by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-15.
 
Torres posted another double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs, while Scepura had 26 digs. Freshman Amanda Snowden led the way with 13 kills.
 
Frostburg returns to action next Saturday at the Kean Tournament.
