Frostburg Advances To CAC Tournament Semifinals

FROSTBURG, Md. – For the second time in as many meetings, the Frostburg State men's lacrosse team scored 17 goals in a victory over St. Mary's (Md.). However, Wednesday night's meeting carried a little more weight as the Bobcats captured a 17-9 win over the visiting Seahawks in the first round of the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament, at a chilly Bobcat Stadium.

In a rematch of Saturday's regular-season finale for both teams, Frostburg (13-4) used another fourth-quarter scoring surge to secure the win.
 
After St. Mary's (7-10) pulled to within three goals twice in the third frame on Wednesday, Frostburg used a 3-0 scoring run over the last 15 seconds of the third quarter and the first four minutes of the fourth to secure a 13-7 lead. Junior Devin Colegrove started the run late in the third, while senior Devon Stailey and sophomore Tate Rolland added goals in the fourth.
 
SMCM added two goals midway through the fourth quarter, but the Bobcats scored the game's final four goals for the 17-9 final. Sophomore Spenser Love scored two of the final four goals, while senior Billy Lark scored his first goal of the season.
 
Frostburg outshot St. Mary's 39-20 and opened the contest with a flurry of offensive action as the Bobcats raced out to a 5-0 lead and led 7-1 after the first quarter.
 
Love led the charge with four goals and one assist, while junior Greg Bourne scored four goals, including three in the first half. Colegrove added two goals and two assists.
 
Lark, the reigning CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, won 15-of-25 faceoffs and picked up 10 ground balls, while fellow senior Tyler Haines needed to make just nine saves in the win.
 
Eric Simon led St. Mary's with two goals and one assist, while both Conor Jordan and Ben Love added two goals.
 
Frostburg advances to the semifinals with the win and will travel to top seed and No. 2 ranked Salisbury on Saturday. A time has yet to be announced.
