FROSTBURG, Md. – A highly contested game between Frostburg State and York (Pa.) came down to a highly contested final shot to determine a winner.

Box Score

And it was a finish to remember as FSU junior James Peters swished a deep, off-balance and contested three-pointer as time expired to lift the hosts to a 77-74 win in Capital Athletic Conference action, Wednesday.

Peters finished the ballgame with 33 points, just one shy of tying his career-high. However, it was his final three points that were the most crucial.

With just seconds remaining, an in-bounds pass in front of the Bobcat bench from senior Aaron Bellamy found a tightly-guarded Peters. The left-hander caught the pass moving to his right and hoisted up the game-winner as the final horn blared and Bobcat Arena erupted in celebration.

Peters' game-winner was just a final exclamation point on what proved to an exciting game throughout. The contest featured 15 ties and 12 lead changes. The second half alone possessed 10 lead changes, six ties, but it was two big rallies, one by each team, that setup Peters' buzzer beater.

York's Mike Mathews hit a traditional three-point play with 9:26 left in the second half that handed the Spartans a 60-58 lead.

Frostburg (3-21, 2-14) rebounded moments later with a quick 7-0 spurt for a 71-62 lead with just 5:42 remaining. After trading baskets, the Spartans (4-20, 3-13) used the next 4:10 to inch back into the game. Joey Steinberg hit a three-pointer that started the run at 4:25 and he later tied the ballgame at 74-74 with a free throw with 15 seconds left.

However, the Spartans left just enough time for Frostburg to grab the win.

Peters finished 12-of-24 (50%) from the floor with three 3PTs. Sophomore Nick Smoot added 15 points and six assists. Junior Jabari Kamau led all players with 11 rebounds.

York finished with four players in double figures, including three starters. Mathews led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Feinberg finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Bobcats cap their regular season this Saturday with senior day when they host Salisbury at 3:00 pm.
