BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team cut a double-digit deficit to five points late in the second half but couldn't complete the comeback in an 85-72 loss at Southern Virginia, Wednesday.

The Bobcats (2-19) finished with three players in doubles figures, but Southern Virginia (5-13) finished with four players in doubles digits, including three starters.
Other than a tie score at 2-2 in the early going, the Knights led from the opening tip to the final horn. However, that didn't stop Frostburg from making a run late in the second half.
Trailing by as many as 19 points with 14:04 left in the second, FSU used a 10-0 run starting with 6:44 showing on the clock. Sophomore Nick Smoot scored five points during the scoring outburst that brought the Bobcat deficit to just 68-63 with 3:21 to play. On their ensuing trip down the floor, junior James Peters hit a layup to keep the deficit at five 70-65.
With 2:00 remaining in the game, Smoot hit a three-pointer that brought the Bobcats to within six, 74-68. But that was as close as Frostburg would get as Southern Virginia closed out the final two minutes on an 11-4 run for the 13-point win.
Peters came off the bench to lead Frostburg in scoring with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Smoot added 19, while sophomore Kurt Gangler had 10. Frostburg took advantage of 17 Knight turnovers, converting into 24 points.
Southern Virginia, which outrebounded FSU 50-38, was led in scoring by Preston Eaton with 20 points. Chris Baker added 16, while Wesley Evans pulled down 14 rebounds.
Frostburg travels to Marymount this Saturday at 4:00 pm.
