LYNCHBURG, Va. – Seniors Ronje James and Jasmine Walker combine for 39 of the team's 61 points in a 70-61 loss at Randolph College, Monday afternoon.
James shot 50 percent from the floor and led all players with 23 points as the Bobcats (1-7) wrapped up the 2014 portion of their schedule. Walker posted her second double-double in a row with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Frostburg made four more baskets that the Wildcats (8-1) and had a better shooting percentage from the floor. However, Randolph finished 26-of-41 (63.4%) from the foul line and outscored the Bobcat bench 40-13.
Randolph led from wire-to-wire and quickly opened up an 8-0 lead on Frostburg just 3:10 into action. A three-pointer handed the hosts a 10-point lead, 22-12, at 9:10 and the Wildcats led by as many as 15 points before carrying a 36-27 lead into intermission.
Frostburg recovered in the second half and opened the stanza with a quick burst that closed the gap to 39-35 just 3:57 into play. James and Walker combined for all eight points that pulled the Bobcats back into the game.
Randolph-Macon built its lead back to 11, 47-69, but FSU answered with an 8-1 run that again cut it to four, 48-44, with 10:12 remaining.
James later hit a three-pointer and junior Courtney Young made a free throw at 8:20 as the Bobcats pulled to within two points at 50-48. The game remained within reach for the Bobcats until the very end. Walker hit two foul shots with 1:33 to play that pulled FSU within three, 61-58, but the Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 9-3 following the free throws to seal the win.
Frostburg finished 13-of-27 (42.6%) from the floor, but couldn't overcome Randolph's 26-of-41 effort (63.4%) from the foul line.
Abigail Bullins led the hosts with 17 points, while Korin Harris added 13.
Frostburg resumes its 2015 schedule with a road trip to Wesley on January 3 at 1:00 pm.
