Bobcat Men Earn Home Playoff Game With Victory Over SVU

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Freshman Rodrigo Valenzuela scored a late goal Wednesday that not only handed Frostburg State a win but pushed it into a three-way tie for second in the Capital Athletic Conference standings and a first round home game in the upcoming CAC Tournament.

Valenzuela scored with less than seven minutes left to carry the Bobcats to a 1-0 shutout victory over Southern Virginia in the regular-season finale for both schools.

The goal was just the second of the season for Valenzuela, but it couldn't have come at a better time as the win lifted FSU from sixth to a tie for second. Due to tie breaking rules in the CAC, the Bobcats (10-5-3) will be the third seed in the tournament and host sixth-seeded St. Mary's (Md.) this Saturday at Bobcat Stadium. A time for the game will be announced Thursday.

FSU outshot Southern Virginia 19-10 en route to its 11th shutout of the season. The Bobcats received yet another solid effort from sophomore keeper Hassan Mostafa who registered four saves for his ninth shutout of the fall campaign. Frostburg also attempted all 10 corner kicks in the game.

The Knights (6-14) attempted just three shots in the second half and keeper Efren Gutierrez totaled six saves in the loss.
