FROSTBURG, Md. – Emmanuel Oppong scored the game's only goal to lift St. Mary's past Frostburg, 1-0, in the first round of the 2014 CAC Tournament, Saturday.
The Bobcats settle at 10-6-3 overall while the Seahawks improve to 10-9 and advance to the semifinals of the tournament this Wednesday.
Frostburg entered the contest looking to advance to the semifinals for the fourth-straight season, however, Oppong's goal in the 39
th minute ended FSU's chances.
Bobcat keeper Hassan Mostafa stopped five shots and led a defensive effort that limited St. Mary's to just one goal on 16 shots. SMCM netminder Zack Haussler also made five saves in the win.
Freshman Andrew Jenkins had a solid opportunity in the first half with a shot towards the right side of the goal, but Haussler made a diving save to his left to keep his team up 1-0.
