ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Freshman Naya Cheatem smacked 14 kills, but the Frostburg State volleyball team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference match at St. Mary's, 3-0, Saturday.
The Bobcats (13-15, 3-4) fell into a 1-0 hole after dropping the first set 25-17. The Seahawks (15-8, 4-3) earned the win by scoring the set's final seven points after holding a narrow 18-17 lead.
Frostburg rallied from a pair of large deficits in the second game and pulled within 24-22, but SMCM closed out the game with a kill for the 25-22 win.
Frostburg led for much of the third set, including a 17-12 lead. However, St. Mary's closed out the game and the match with a 13-3 run for a 25-20 victory.
Cheatem hit .429 and led the Bobcats in kills for the second-straight contest. Freshman Madelyn Torres handed out 30 assists and freshman Lindsey Scepura led both squads with 20 digs.
Frostburg State travels to Southern Virginia this Wednesday for a CAC matchup at 7:00 pm.
