Women’s Soccer Earns Hard Fought Draw With CNU

FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Stephanie Fazenbaker scored the game-tying goal and Frostburg State earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Christopher Newport, Saturday on senior day.

The league-leading Captains (11-3-3, 7-0-1) narrowly outshot the Bobcats, 16-13, and scored the first goal 12:10 into second half action. Victoria Perry scored off an assist from Abby Johnson for a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute.

Just under three minutes later, Fazenbaker corralled a shot that hit the crossbox and placed it past Haley Casanova that tied the score at 1-1. Sophomore Nicole Gernert was credited with the shot that hit the crossbar and setup the goal.

FSU had a pair of solid chances in the opening half. Freshman Alyssa Malanik had a long free kick that was speared out of the air with one hand by Casanova and moments later, junior Brooke Longo ripped a left-footed attempt that forced Casanova to make a diving stop.

Bobcat senior Katie Smith registered eight saves, while Casanova finished with five.

FSU travels to Southern Virginia to wrap up its regular season this Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
