FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State University dropped a tightly contested CAC field hockey game to Christopher Newport, 2-1, Saturday on senior day.
Junior Jackie Best scored for the third-consecutive contest to pull the Bobcats (6-11, 0-5) even with the Captains (11-5, 3-2) in the 21
st minute of the first half.
Frostburg, looking for its fourth home win of the fall, received another impressive outing from sophomore keeper Jacqueline Gover, who saved 19 shots, including 12 in the second stanza.
In the 58
th minute, CNU surged to a 2-1 lead after Samantha Snider tipped home a cross from Madison Doss for a 2-1 lead.
FSU attempted two shots following the Christopher Newport goal but couldn't find the net. Bailey Lien made five saves to earn the win and Belle Tunstall scored just 1:58 into the game to give the visitors the early 1-0 advantage.
FSU returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to York (Pa.) at 3:30 pm
