MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team got back into the winning coloum with a 4-2 victory over Capital Athletic Conference opponent, Penn State Harrisburg, Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 10-4-3 on the season and 4-2-1 in the CAC while the Lions fall to 5-10 on the year and 1-6 in the conference.
Frostburg jumped out to an early lead as FSU scored a pair of goals within 2:49 of each other. Senior Erin Worthman got the scoring frenzy started with her sixth goal of the year at the 11 minute mark before junior Chelsie McCoy made it a 2-0 game off an assist from sophomore Nicole Gernert.
The Lions did not back down, however, and Leann Kazawic got PSH on the board with an unassisted goal at 16:20 to cut the Bobcat lead to 2-1.
After a shot from Gernert went just wide of the net, freshman Melanie Bell pushed the Bobcat lead back to two goals with her fourth goal of the year with 14:32 to play in the opening half. Frostburg capped its scoring for the game as freshman Jaci Buteau netted her third of the season off a pass from sophomore Kelsi Foch.
The Lions scored the game's final goal in the 73
rd minute as Kazawic put home a pass from Erica Hile to bring the score to its final of 4-2 in favor of the Bobcats.
Senior Katie Smith need just one save in the win while her Lion counterpart, Mackenzie Gates posted a pair of saves. Frostburg outshot the Lions 14-5, including 7-1 in the opening 45 minutes.
Frostburg returns to action when the Bobcats host Christopher Newport in a key CAC matchup on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
