Overtime Goal Carries Field Hockey To Win

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Junior Jackie Best scored a pair of goals, her second in the 73rd minute, that lifted Frostburg to a 5-4 come-from-behind overtime victory over Wilson, Wednesday afternoon.

It was Best's second two-goal game of the year and it pushed the Bobcats overall record to 6-10 overall, snapping a six-game losing skid.

Her first goal of the game came in the 29th minute on a penalty stroke that handed the visitors a 3-2 lead at halftime. Juniors Taylor Bowen (16:47) and Jacquelyn Nava (23:26) also added goals in the opening half.

Wilson (5-8) rebounded in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Chanteal Cobb (43:42) and Miranda Long (44:51) scored just over a minute apart to give the Phoenix a 4-3 advantage.

However, the game belonged to Frostburg. Leading scorer Alexandra Darrow sent the game into overtime when she converted a penalty stroke in the 67th minute with time quickly running out in regulation.

Frostburg was awarded a pair of penalty corners in extra time and the Bobcats attempted the only two shots. Darrow had her attempt saved at 71:37, but FSU wasn't to be denied as Best found the net off an assist from Nava at 72:18 to capture the win.

Bobcat starter Jacqueline Gover notched four saves in win, while Nava and freshman Elizabeth Davis chipped in with a defensive save. Emily Sullivan suffered the defeat after allowing two goals in the final 39:22 of action.

Best finished with two goals on the afternoon and Nava scored once and handed out two assists.

The Bobcats host Christopher Newport this Saturday on senior day at 11:00 am.
