DOVER, Del. – The Frostburg State field hockey team lost to Capital Athletic Conference opponent, Wesley, 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Bobcats slip to 5-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference while Wesley moves to 6-9 on the year and 1-3 in the CAC.
After a scoreless first half, the Wolverines struck first in the second stanza. After a save from Bobcat keeper Jacqueline Gover and defensive save from Alexandra Darrow, Wesley's Laruen Mears took a pass from Devin Price and scored the game's first goal at 48:38.
Frostburg found its equalizer in the 63
rd minute as Jackie Best put the ball past the Wolverine keeper off a penalty corner to tie the game at 1-1. Each team was able to get off one more shot before time expired in regulation but neither could break the tie and the game headed into overtime.
Wesley held a 12-6 advantage in shots in the first overtime period and Gover made seven stops to keep the game tied and force a second overtime.
Frostburg took the first five shots of the second overtime period before Wesley could get off a shot. After a shot by Mears was saved by Gover, Gracie Daniels put the ball past Gover off a breakaway with just 1:42 to play to hand Wesley the 2-1 win.
Wesley had the advantage in shots (34-25) and penalty corners (16-10) but Gover bested her Wesley counterpart, Sarah Daniels, 15-13 in saves for the contest.
Frostburg returns to action when the Bobcats take on Wilson on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
