Bobcats Draw With Wesley

DOVER, Del. – Frostburg State and Wesley battled to a 1-1 draw Friday night in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Frostburg (9-4-3, 3-2-1 CAC) struck first as junior Chelsie McCoy corralled a pass from senior Stephanie Fazenbaker as she lobbed the ball over the defense for McCoy who beat the keeper to give FSU a 1-0 lead 21:39 into action. Wesley (9-4-1, 2-3-1 CAC) did not get off a shot until late in the 33rd minute when Christina Verzi's shot went wide of the net. The Bobcats outshot the Wolverines 14-1 in the opening stanza.

After the intermission, the Bobcats rattled off four more shots until Wesley's Breonna Day wrangled the loose ball off the corner kick and fed it to Cassidy McSorley who sent it past the Bobcat keeper, senior Katie Smith, to tie the game 1-1 at 58:48.

Following the WC goal, the Bobcats berated the Wesley keeper with 14 more shots in the half but could not find one to get through and the game remained tied, 1-1, and headed into extra time.

At the end of regulation, the Bobcats outshot Wesley 34-2 though Nasia Denegal needed 17 saves to keep the score tied.

Frostburg State came out in the first overtime period on a mission to win in the first extra 10 minutes but could not get one of its 14 shots to find the back of the net. Five of FSU's shots in the first overtime were on target but turned away by Denegal.

The Bobcats continued their hot shooting through the second overtime period as four different Bobcats' registered a shot in the first 6:46 but once again FSU could not break the tie as the game came to its final at 1-1 after 110:00 of action.

Smith needed just one save for the tie while Denegal registered 19 saves in the net for Wesley. Frostburg outshot the Wolverines 52-4 on the day while holding a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
