FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomore Taylor Bowen scored an early goal and junior Jacqueline Gover posted career numbers in net for Frostburg State before 18
th-ranked Mary Washington rebounded for a 3-1 win in CAC action, Tuesday.
Gover made save after save and kept Mary Washington (11-3, 2-0) from running away with game. She set a new career-high with 24 saves, good 10
th in school history in a single game. She has set her career-high on five occasions this season, including three times in the last five games.
The Bobcats (5-9, 0-3) grabbed an early 1-0 lead just 3:25 into the game when junior Ashley Johnson attempted a shot that was deflected directly to sophomore Taylor Bowen, who smacked home her second goal of the season.
FSU hung tough with the Eagles and clung to its 1-0 lead until the 18
th minute when Jenna Steele scored the game-tying goal of an assist from Christine Loehr.
The contest remained tied at 1-1 at intermission despite Mary Washington holding a 12-7 advantage in shots.
In the second half, Kathleen Namey scored at 41:30 and Carle Budd added an insurance goal in the 63
rd minute.
Mary Washington, which held a 33-9 edge in shots, were led in scoring by Steele, who scored the first goal and assisted on the game's four and final tally. Eagle keeper Megan McLaughlin registered four saves.
Frostburg State travels to Wesley this Sunday at 1:00 pm.
