SALISBURY, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a narrow 1-0 loss to CAC rival Salisbury, Saturday.
Box Score
The Bobcats (6-2) entered the contest having won their last three games, including two on the road. However, Tanner East scored with less than three minutes remaining in the opening half that eventually propelled the Sea Gulls (8-2) to the victory.
Salisbury held a 17-8 edge in shots, but Frostburg had its chances. Early in the second half, a foul on SU inside its own 18-yard box handed FSU a penalty kick and a chance to tie the score. Senior Kunle Akinfeleye was given the opportunity to knot the game at 1-1, but his shot was saved by Sea Gull keeper Drew Staedeli. With just 26 seconds left in regulation, Bobcat senior Phil Nana had a header saved by Staedeli on the final shot by either team.
Freshman Hassan Mostafa started his second-consecutive game and made seven saves in the loss. He stopped five shots in the second half as the hosts tried to add to their 1-0 lead. Staedeli finished with four saves for his eighth win.
FSU returns to action this Wednesday with home game against Penn State Harrisburg at 7:00 pm.
