Men's Soccer Comes from Behind to Defeat W&J

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team scored two goals in the final ten minutes to come from behind to defeat Washington and Jefferson by a score of 3-2, Saturday night. Senior Chris Jones scored the go-ahead goal with less than a minute to go to give Frostburg the victory.

Box Score

The Bobcats (4-1) secured the early lead over the Presidents (3-2) when Jones scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Pablo Torrano. W&J tied the game up at one just over two minutes later as senior Cody Peddicord found the back of the net, and that ended the scoring for the first half.

Despite a 13-5 edge in shots for the Bobcats, they found themselves behind when the Presidents sixth shot of the game from James Calvert gave W&J a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute.

After falling behind, Frostburg continued to push for the equalizer and finally found it in the 84th minute as senior Kunle Akinfeleye scored his team-leading third goal off an assist from Jonah Mohre.

With the match tied at two and only minutes remaining it looked as if the game was headed for overtime, but with only 50 seconds remaining in regulation Jones scored for the second time in the game to give the Bobcats the dramatic 3-2 win.

The Bobcats doubled the Presidents in shots by a 19-8 advantage, including an 11-5 edge in shots on goal.

Frostburg goalkeeper Drew Hock recorded three saves in the victory, while Jon Best made eight saves for the visiting Presidents.

Frostburg returns to action Tuesday when they travel to face Penn State Altoona at 6:00 pm.
