LATROBE, Pa. - The Frostburg State volleyball team earned a split on the second day of the Saint Vincent Tournament, Saturday. The Bobcats opened with a 3-2 victory over Pitt-Greensburg before falling to Carlow in straight sets, 3-0.
The first victory of the season for the Bobcats (1-3) came in the form of a comeback, as FSU was behind 2-1 after three sets but rallied to win the final two. The final score was 19-25, 25-10, 10-25, 25-18, 15-13.
Junior Morgan Hoover led the team with 17 kills, while sophomore Aimee Petrides followed closely with 14. Sophomore Caitlyn Collins led the Bobcats in assists and services aces, with 43 and four respectively.
On the defensive side, Collins was matched for the most blocks with three by senior Brianna Teets. Senior Jamie Frank led Frostburg with 21 digs.
In three tightly contested sets, Frostburg fell to Carlow in their second match of the day by a score of 19-25, 18-25, 17-25.
After leading the Bobcats in kills against Pitt-Greensburg, Hoover finished the day with a total of 23 kills. Collins led the team with 62 assists as well as four services aces.
Defensively, Frank and teammate April Wolfe led Frostburg in digs with a total of 31. Hoover and Collins finished with a total of five blocks each to lead the team.
The FSU volleyball team will return to action on Friday, Sept. 6 at 6:00 pm when they travel to face Ohio Valley in the Marietta College Tournament.
