FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State scored eight goals in the fourth quarter to blow open a close game and capture a 13-4 victory over visiting Saint Vincent College, Wednesday.
The Bobcats (7-4) struggled with the Bearcats (2-5) for the first three quarters before a fourth-frame explosion propelled FSU to the win. After following behind by two goals after the first quarter, Frostburg rebounded with a 13-2 scoring advantage over the final three quarters.
Freshman Spenser Love scored three goals and sophomore Devon Colegrove scored twice and handed out two assists during the scoring run in the fourth.
Frostburg rebounded from a 2-0 hole after the first quarter with a 5-0 run that lasted until 7:25 in the third stanza. Corbin Cole scored back-to-back goals for SVC to bring it to 5-4 before the fourth quarter.
The junior tandem of Lucas Flaig and Ryan Serio started the fourth with a goal at 14:05 that extended the Frostburg lead to 6-4. Love scored three-straight for a 9-4 lead with 9:42 to play, essentially shutting the door on Saint Vincent.
Love finished with four goals while Colegrove had three goals and two assists. Junior Tyler Haines stopped 11 shots, including seven in the final three quarters. Classmate Billy Lark won 12-of-19 faceoffs.
Cole scored three of Saint Vincent’s four goals in the squads losing effort. Adam Gunter stopped 12 shots in net while suffering the loss.
Despite trailing by two after the opening quarter, FSU outshot the visitors 47-20, including 12-7 in the first quarter. The Bobcats picked up 57 ground balls, were a perfect 29-for-29 on clears on won 13-of-21 faceoffs.
FSU is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Greensboro at 11:00 am.
