Softball Falls Twice At Fourth Ranked Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – Fourth ranked Salisbury overpowered Frostburg State in the final CAC series of the regular season for both teams, Saturday. The Bobcats dropped both contests in five innings, suffering 9-0 and 16-0 setbacks.

The Bobcats (27-10, 5-3) and Sea Gulls (32-2, 8-0) were scoreless through the first two innings of the opener until the hosts scored five runs in the third and four runs in the fourth. The 2-3-4 hitters in the SU lineup did most of the damage, driving in eight of the nine runs.

Senior Taylor Vandegrift led FSU with two hits, while freshmen Renay Aubel and Allison Williams each had one. Freshman starter Mary Ann Moore suffered just her fourth loss of the season, allowing nine runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings of work.

In the second contest, Salisbury scored in all four innings, including six runs in the third inning for a 16-0 shutout. Hannah Mills and Michelle Gravdahl accounted for seven RBI and five runs to again power the SU lineup.

Vandegrift and Aubel each finished with one hit for the Bobcats. Freshman Nicole Bradford endured just her third loss of the season after allowing nine earned runs on 16 hits.

FSU returns to action on Wednesday with a road doubleheader at Penn State Altoona at 3:00 pm.
